Biography

ABOUT

Mila Ferramosca is a well-established London-based violinist, who has recently graduated her Masters’ in Violin Performance from the Royal College of Music, where she also studied her BMus Hons as a scholar supported by the Ian Evans Lombe Award, under the tutelage of internationally-renowned pedagogues Gabrielle Lester, Leonid Kerbel, Radu Blidar and Mark Messenger. Upon finishing her studies, she is currently a violinist and member of Southbank Sinfonia, with whom she is undertaking a fellowship, their most recent performance being a part of the London Handel Festival in St. George’s, Hanover Square, with members of the London Handel Players.

 

During her time at the Royal College, she performed in various public masterclasses, highlights including with Tasmin Little in Bishop Strings, and Alina Ibragimova in the Britten Theatre, RCM. Orchestrally, she performed under the baton of the acclaimed Vladimir Ashkenazy, Sir Mark Elder, John Wilson and Ed Gardner, to name but a few. She performed twice with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe at the RCM.

 

As a previous student at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, she studied with Mark Messenger and Viktoria Grigoreva, she was the leader of the Royal College of Music Junior Department Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, leading performances in Cadogan Hall. She has performed multiple times in the BBC Proms as 3rd chair of the 1st Violin Section of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and has made solo appearances in prestigious venues across the globe, including Carnegie Hall as a winner of the Golden Key Festival Competition, Royal Albert Hall's Elgar Room, Wigmore Hall, and RCM's Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, Jersey Arts’ Centre and has won scholarships to attend masterclass courses, including Musica Mundi in Belgium, the Tsukanov Scholarship to Jersey International Masterclasses, Quattro Corde, and New Virtuosi, Queenswood, where she studied with Itzhak Rashkovsky and Andrej Bielow. 

 

Acclaimed prize-holder has also won GDST Young Musician of the Year in St John Smith’s Square, and a selection of Royal College of Music awards including Chamber Music Prize, the Constance Farrington Prize, the Freda Dinn & Ida Mabbett String Prize, as well as 2nd Prize in the Angela Bull Memorial Competition, Gordon Turner Competition and Peter Morrison Concerto Competition Finals, performing Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto no.1. She was a finalist in the Royal Philharmonic Society's Duet Prize, and won 2nd Prize in Grand Prize Vienna Competition, for which she was invited to perform in Metallener Sal MusicVerein, Vienna.

 

A devoted chamber musician, she has made quartet and octet appearances in Wigmore Hall and the House of Lords. She is currently 2nd violin and joint founder of the Bodman String Quartet, with regular performances in LSO St. Lukes’.

 

American-born with French and Italian roots, Mila grew up in Oxford, England, and spent a wealth of time in the Baroque sphere, both playing and singing with Vivaldi’s Women under the baton of Richard Vendome. She had a choral upbringing, and was a 1st soprano in both the Royal College of Music’s Parry Voices and Chamber Choir, the Choir of Hildegarde von Bingen and Oxford Girl’s Choir. During her time in Oxford, she was the leader of Oxford Concerto Orchestra, with whom she performed at the ESTA (European String Teachers’ Association) conference in Oxford Examination Schools, and Thames Vale Youth Orchestra. As the winner of Oxford’s Young Artist Platform, she performed recitals in the Sheldonian Theatre, as well as multiple solo appearances with orchestra in the Sheldonian. She won Abingdon Concerto Competition, and performed Bartok's Violin Concerto no.1 with the Abingdon Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Alexander Walker.

 

Away from the classical sphere, she performs regularly with Last Train (a rockabilly band) and Vintage Riders (70s band) throughout bars and restaurants in the South of France, as well as being an active member of the Symphonic Ibiza Orchestra and Symphonica, touring both club pop and electric at various festivals around the UK and Europe.

 

Upcoming performances in January 2024 include leading Southbank Sinfonia under the baton of Gabrielle Teychenne in St. John’s Smith Square, and side-by-side performance with members of the Britten Sinfonia.
